iOS 18 Leaks: Game-Changing Features You Won’t Believe Are Coming

Apple announced iOS 18 at WWDC 2024, and the much-anticipated software upgrade is now available for compatible devices. What to expect from iOS 18 includes significant upgrades to core iPhone apps such as Mail, Messages, Photos, Maps, and Wallet, as well as entirely new AI tools for the best iPhones (i.e. the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone 16 line) via Apple’s latest Apple Intelligence feature suite. Rather than arriving with iOS 18, Apple Intelligence is coming to the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone 16 line as part of iOS 18.1, which isn’t scheduled until October. Still, we already know that the toolset will include a smarter Siri, text summarisation, writing assistance, and generative image creation.

iOS 18 introduces the “biggest-ever redesign” of the iPhone’s Photos app. It has been consolidated into a single display that includes a photo grid and a dates grid to help you discover the shot you’re looking for. You can also filter photographs by category, such as screenshots and groups. iOS 18 also has a new ‘Recovered’ album feature, which stores photographs or videos not in your main photo gallery. According to Apple, this lowers the possibility of database corruption or problems with third-party programs.

iOS 18 allows users to change app icons and widgets. For the first time, you may place apps at the bottom or side of the screen, freeing up space for the wallpaper behind them. In iOS 18, you can also enable a new dark mode for app icons and apply color tints.

Like the Home Screen, the Control Center has been overhauled for iOS 18. You may now divide the Control Center into different function groups, such as Media and Home, and resize Control Center widgets. For the first time on iPhone, iOS 18 lets you customize which Control Center widgets appear on the Lock Screen

iOS 18 allows you to respond to messages with any emoji, and you may also schedule messages to be sent later. Apple has also included additional text formatting options to the Messages app, allowing you to underline, strikethrough, and bold your messages and add new text formatting such as ripple effects. In iOS 18, the Messages app supports the RCS standard. This should provide a more complete messaging experience when chatting with someone who does not own an Apple device. iOS 18 introduces a new default iPhone app: Passwords. Passwords, as the name implies, serve as a one-stop shop for all of your important passwords, passkeys, and verification codes. In addition to being a digital storage vault, the app will notify you if you are using weak passwords or if your information has been compromised in a data breach. Naturally, all information in the Passwords app is safeguarded by end-to-end encryption, and you may lock it behind Touch or Face ID authentication.

In iOS 18, the Wallet app was updated with a new ‘touch to cash’ function, making it easier to pay friends. Specific event tickets will now have a more dynamic design.

In a future update (presumably coinciding with the release of Apple Intelligence), iOS 18 will use Apple’s new and enhanced on-device processing to categorise emails into four folders: primary, transactions, updates, and promotions. The Mail app will soon be able to give easy-to-read digests, allowing you to rapidly scan for what’s most important at the moment.

iOS 18 adds optional Face ID verification to all iPhone apps, including Notes and financial apps. You can also conceal programs in a new Hidden Programs folder.

Although Apple has not acknowledged it, the first iOS 18 beta revealed that the iPhone 15’s Power Reserve feature (which lets you access cards and locate your iPhone when the battery is otherwise out of energy) now displays the time, so we can only assume that this change has made it to the final.
